Gold Dental Fillings

Some people do not like to go with the flow, so guess what they do. They choose to have their teeth decked out with a different color. Although they do not go outside with red teeth or purple teeth, because they would have to wake up with it, many choose to go for gold fillings. This is not the same as "grillz", which refer to the all gold teeth that some people may have. These gold fillings actually may just cover part of your teeth, not your entire tooth, so it may be an odd look for some. Therefore, you should be sure this is what you want.

We could also show you how you would look if you did choose to have a gold filling in your cavity hole. Regardless, if you have any questions be sure to talk to one of the dentists at Chantilly's Finest Dentists. We will be glad to answer any of your inquiries, so that you may go and get the best dental care that you deserve, hands down. When you choose to have a gold dental filling, be sure to call (571) 253-7025, or fill out an instant quote form!

Pros of Gold Fillings:

  • Gold teeth are different, so they will stand out; however, this can be interpreted as good or bad, depending on how you view it (the cup may be seen as half-empty or half-full).
  • Gold fillings are more durable than some of the other types of fillings. They can last over a decade with good dental care (brushing your teeth, flossing your teeth, and using mouthwash).
  • Gold fillings do not erode, allowing it to be a great solution for filling all those cavity holes that you may have.
  • Since gold resins are more durable, they tend to stay in place a lot longer. Unlike resins that may move when your teeth slowly start to reform, causing replacements in the future, gold resins will not move as much, if at all, allowing a firm placement in your mouth cavity or hole.

Cons of Gold Fillings

  • Since gold teeth are deviating from the norm, they will stand out; this can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it (viewing the cup as half-empty or half-full), as stated in the "pors" section.
  • Since gold is a precious metal with a very high market value, gold fillings will be more expensive than the normal resins. Therefore, the price may shy you away.
  • Unlike other metals, many of you may choose to have gold materials lying around. If that is the case, you may be able to have your gold melted and refashioned in order to have it placed in your mouth as a dental filling.
  • Gold fillings may take longer to apply than normal fillings, which may require you to have an extra appointment. The first time you come, one of our fine dentists will analyze your teeth so that we can get the dimensions needed in order to supply the correct amount of gold. A dentist may put in a temporary filling. During the next visit, the temporary filling is removed and a gold filling is placed in its place.

Some little basics about gold fillings include:

  • Susceptibility to galvanic shock: this occurs when a gold filling is placed next to a silver filling. We will not get into the chemistry of this, but when the saliva touches the metal fillings, it can create an electric current that may be painful. Basically, with gold fillings, you should not place a silver filling next to it or vice-versa.
  • Gold fillings may be better suited in the back of your mouth, where no one may see it. You may want to save your front teeth for the white resin and then save the gold fillings for the back of your mouth. For those of you that would not like to have the front of your mouth be white and gold, placing the gold fillings in the back of your mouth may be a great option for you.
